1. What genre(s) do you write?
I write a cozy mystery series with a fantastic dog.
2. Do you have a newly released novel? What is the title and a link to buy the novel?
I do - Released March 13. The title is Juleps, Jockeys & Justice.
3. What other published novels do you have?
This is the ninth book in the IMPACT award winning series following American Book Fest Finalist: Maverick, Movies & Murder; Rescues, Rogues & Renegade; Tinsel, Trial & Traitors: Chanticleer Finalist Santa, Snowflakes & Strychnine, Chanticleer Semifinalist Fishing, Festivities & Fatalities: Diamonds, Diesel & Doom, Killer Nashville Silver Falchion Top Pick Creeps, Cache & Corpses; and Pranks, Payback & Poison.
4. Are there any other social media links, websites, or other places to learn about you that we should add?
.
5. What is your favorite part of being an author?
I love my characters and the stories they seem to let me tell. I also appreciate meeting the readers - I have spoken to libraries and at book clubs and always learn something new.
6. If you are traditionally published, who is your agent? If you are self-published, what publishing software do you prefer?
I am published by the Secret Staircase Imprint of Columbine Publishing Group.
7. What do you do with your free time when you’re not writing?
I walk my dog whose only speed is faster, taste test cocktails, nibble on chocolate, spend wonderful time with family and friends, and constantly scrub my browser history of all references to crime.
8. How long does it usually take you to finish a novel?
It takes roughly five months from the initial outline until I submit my novel to my editor for review. The ideas are stacked in a folder just waiting for their turn.
9. What is the most fun and most difficult part of the writing process for you? Eg. first draft, editing, researching?
The most fun is rereading what I’ve written, so I guess that’s the editing. I love the research, though that usually takes me down a rabbit hole for too long so that would be the most difficult part.
10. Do you have other mystery series you’d like to write or is Katie and Maverick your focus?
I am contemplating a second cozy series. I’m having so much fun.
11. Who is your favourite author/s? And why?
The answer to this question changes with the season. Two of my favorite stories today are Corelli’s Mandolin and A Prayer for Owen Meany but I read all the books by Minnesota authors I can find (too many to name). They are super because what else do you do in Minnesota during the winter but write a good mystery.
12. What is one book that profoundly impacted you as a writer, and why?
I have always been spellbound by Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. A mathematician wrote the stories and that was my background.
13. What are two fun facts about you?
You can purchase a plot of land in Scotland in support of the national park and it comes with a title. I am Lady Mary Katherine Gehlen Seifert. And secondly, I can’t cook!
14. If you could give any advice to a new writer/author, what would it be?
WRITE.
