Rob Mortell

[object Object]

I’m from a small town in northern Illinois, where I cultivated a passion for fantastical worlds beyond cornfields. I’ve had a love for stories and storytelling since childhood. There’s just something about a mysterious and magical world–any chance to see magic, dragons, or sword fights.

I’m happily married with three amazing kids. One day, I hope my kids will be able to enjoy the stories and world I have created for them. I have a degree in journalism from Eastern Illinois University and work in marketing and advertising in the building material supply industry when I’m not writing.

  1. What genre(s) do you write?

    Fantasy

  1. Do you have a newly released novel? What is the title and a link to buy the novel?

Tales & Treasure released last year

  1. Are there any other social media links, websites, or other places to learn about you that we should add?

    Substack Newsletter

    Instagram

    Threads

    TikTok

    BlueSky

    Twitter/X

    Facebook

  1. If you are traditionally published, who is your agent? If you are self-published, what publishing software do you prefer/ who is your publisher?

I’m self-published. I’ve distributed it as wide so far using Amazon and Draft2Digital, but 95% of my sales have come through Amazon

  1. What is the most fun and most difficult part of the writing process for you? Eg. first draft, editing, researching?

The first draft is the most fun. I’m not an outliner so I like coming up with the story as I go.

  1. What is your favorite part of being an author?

Just getting to share stories that I like and connecting with other authors.

  1. You graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a degree in Journalism. How has it contributed, and how does it differ when you write your novels?

It definitely helps with the write/editing process. I think it has made it easier to cut out unnecessary information and the ability to see a story from many different POVs.

  1. If you could give any advice to a new writer/author, what would it be?

Don’t get too hung up in the marketing, just write the stories you want to write.
