I’m Patrick, a 41 yo man from Mallorca, a little but beautiful island in the mediterranean sea. I studied media and then I expanded my career making some movies, but then i realized that the most thing I love is working on tv. And that’s what I do nowadays. I’m the director of a TV program, and I am also an actor when I have some free time (that means almost never)
What genre(s) do you write and what drew you to writing it?
I use to write about anything that happens around me. I used to write short stories that i published at my little blog. A few years ago, I started to write some kind of short and family adventures. In there, the main characters were my nephews and nieces (I have 11). And two years ago I published my first novel. It’s a kind of fantasy tale that have roots in my personal experience. So I think the genres I prefer to write of are fantasy, adventures, and some kind of simple philosophy for everyday life.
Do you have a newly released novel? What is the title and a link to buy the novel?
I published a novel called ‘Nos despediremos al final del libro’ (‘We’ll say goodbye when the book ends’) a two years ago. I’m actually writing my second novel, in the same way. It’s focused on growing up, but the path for it is a little fantasy tale included inside the novel.
Are there any social media links, websites, or other places to learn about you?
I have a blog: patrickasensi.wordpress.com and here is the website where my novel is published and they have some words about me: https://www.iberaediciones.com/autores-publicados/patrick-asensi
If you are traditionally published, who is your agent? If you are self-published, what publishing software do you prefer/ who is your publisher?
I published thanks to a little agent based in Portugal, with an office in Madrid, they publish novels, short books, and they work for the “democratization of publishing”.
What inspired you to start writing and then publishing your first novel?
The story I wrote is about a trauma I had when I was sixteen. I think these book is some kind of therapy. I’ve been writing it through the years, but then, one day I ‘knew’ (don’t know exactly what happened, I started to cry and then i knew somehow) that it had to be published and read, because many people were, are, and will be struggling the same battle like me.
What is the most fun and most difficult part of the writing process for you? Eg. first draft, editing, researching?
The most funny part of writing that novel was name the main characters. I wanted to make some relations between the characters and people I know: my family, friends…
The most difficult part was the finale. While I was writing it, I saw myself being devastated at sixteen. The story I wrote was the illness of my cousin
What is the most important message you hope readers take away from your writing/book?
Hope is faith, faith is strength. And a simple thought: we are allowed to cry, and we are allowed to take some time to say goodbye to those you love most.
What’s your favorite hobby outside of writing, and how does it influence your creative process?
I love to travel, and it’s in everything I wrote. I’m very curious, I like to speak everyone I meet, taste all kind of meals, and see everything I can. Also I love reading, and while I’m reading, I’m always trying to memorize how the author writes.
If you could give any advice to a new writer/author, what would it be
I don’t have any answer, I think the most important think is follow your instincts. And, of course, read everything you write to someone who really cares. There’s a lot of wisdom in there.
