Leokadia George started volunteering at the Wolf Conservation Center in 2016 where she was introduced to the world of wolf conservation. She also became inspired by one particular Mexican Gray Wolf nicknamed Trumpet, and is honored to be able to share her story.
What genre(s) do you write?
The genre I write is Children’s Picture Books, and my focus is always about animals/wildlife
Do you have a newly released novel? What is the title and a link to buy the novel?
My newest book in the Trumpet the Miracle Wolf Pup book series Is “Trumpet Becomes a Mom” which is available though all major online retailers and various indie bookstores as well as the Wolf Conservation Center’s online store. I am currently working on the 5th and final book in the series which will hopefully be out later this year.
Are there any other social media links, websites, or other places to learn about you that we should add?
People can learn more about Trumpet by following the Wolf Conservation Center on FB, Instagram, TikTok, Threads, Bluesky, YouTube, Twitter/X, or directly from their website at nywolf.org
People can read my bio and learn about the books and purchase the books from my publisher at Briley &Baxter Publications.
And people can contact me directly via email at leokadiageorge.books@gmail.com.
For anyone attending the Chicago ALA annual library conference this year I will be giving out signed copies at the IBPA booth on 6/27/26 at 11am.
If you are traditionally published, who is your agent? If you are self-published, what publishing software do you prefer/ who is your publisher?
Briley & Baxter Publications is my publisher and people can follow them on FB and Instagram
What inspired you to start writing this series?
The reason I wrote this book series was to share the unique story of Critically Endangered Mexican Gray Wolf F1505 aka Trumpet. I decided the children’s book genre would be perfect because her story highlights conservation efforts in a fun and hopeful way as well as being very relatable for young kids. I also wanted to counteract the negative (and false) stereotype wolves have unfortunately gained from other children’s books.
What is one book that profoundly impacted you as a writer, and why?
Growing up I was inspired be Richard Scarry books, but my true inspiration was Trumpet and her lived experience. My style was shaped by my education in psychology (including some child psych courses) and observing what young kids gravitate towards.
What is your favorite hobby outside of writing, and how does it influence your creative process?
My favorite hobby is being outside surrounded by wildlife.
If you could give any advice to a new writer/author, what would it be?
My advice for any author is when those roadblocks pop up, as they very often do, look at them as hurdles! You can jump over, go under and run around hurdles by making some minor adjustments. There is no “one right path”, be flexible.
